Day 23: Hays, KS to Norman, OK

Today was mostly a blue highway day, taking non-interstate highways and county roads south through rural Kansas and into Oklahoma, then east to pick up I-35 for a while south through Oklahoma City and into Norman for the night. We pulled in to almost all the small towns along the way, and there were a lot of them.

La Crosse, KS. Like so many of these places, you can purchase Pawpaws too.

Timken, KS. Most of the really small towns like this one support the farming in the area. Most had one church and neat houses.

Inside this store to buy a drink, I interrupted the proprietor, a guy in a big cowboy hat, and his friend looking over a set of spurs on the table. Hardtner, KS.

Come on Oklahoma! Is this the best you can do for a welcome to your state sign? I can’t say one good thing about this. This should be used in design school as an example of what can really happen. Maybe it was the result of the headstone/monument lobby?? And this is not isolated, I’ve seen these elsewhere in OK.
