Day 15:  In the New Hampshire Lakes Region

We stayed in Wolfeboro two nights, so we had the whole day today to explore, and we did a lot of that in town and along Lake Winnipesaukee.

Again - typical scene at Wolfeboro, NH. And that includes these classic wooden boats. There are both private wooden boats and those for rent.

A number of people suggested that we take a ride on the Mount Washington, a boat the cruises Lake Winnipesaukee with commentary and offers some food and drinks. So we did take a ride. It was about 2.5 hours and we got a great view of the lake, the many islands and especially the houses on shore. The commentary wasn’t that deep, and we passed on the food, but the beer was good, and cold.

One of the many nice homes around this big lake.

A home was on this island. And this island is as big as you see it here. There is nothing larger on the back side, it is just a little round island.

Lobster is still a thing here too, although they are not fresh from the lake. And after not eating any while in Canada, we had some again for lunch today.

We dropped by a preview for a classic car and boat auction that benefits the local New Hampshire Boat Museum. Not many items there, but always fun to look at these classic wooden boats.

We drove to the opposite side of the lake from Wolfeboro and found a slightly different vibe.

A great sign.

The sign went with this place, a classic. I found out that is dates back to 1961 and generally looks the same. It is fully open in the summer and weekends late April and May, and from after Labor Day through Columbus Day. So it is completely closed for a number of months per year.

Another great sign at the entry to the Weirs Beach area.

Weirs Beach had a bit more of a carnival/arcade feel about it.

Weirs Beach.

Wolfeboro public art.

Wolfeboro. We head for Newport, RI tomorrow.
