Door County - Day 11

After breakfast at our inn and a walk around, we drove back to Egg Harbor for the July 4th parade. It was a fun typical small town, July 4th parade, that generally represented Door County as opposed to just Egg Harbor. The University of Wisconsin's marching band was in the parade and played in the park afterwards. We explored around the county, including a visit to another light house, Cana Island Lighthouse. One thing different with this lighthouse is that it is on a small island that we walked on a a short "causeway", in a couple inches of water for a couple hundred feet. For dinner we attended a traditional fish boil in Ephriam. This includes the "show" which involves boiling fish, potatoes and onions in a cauldron over fire, finished with dousing the fire with kerosene to cause an overboil that gets rid of the oil and fire soot that may have landed in the water. Once drained, it is served buffet style and dinner is finished off with homemade cherry pie. It was all really tasty.  See photo sequence below.

Ephraim.

Hardy Gallery walls covered with graffiti. Tradition from years back was that sailors who docked at the pier would write the names of their ships, and this has transitioned to people's names today. This is encouraged.

Ten that follow are of the Egg Harbor 4th of July Parade.

Causeway that leads to the island. We took our shoes and socks off for a few minutes of torture walking across these rocks (and then back!).
