Day 13:  Quebec City to New Hampshire

We left Quebec City in light rains and headed to the United States. We drove through Quebec province for a couple of hours before reaching Vermont, and then quickly on to New Hampshire. The roads were great and there was little traffic most of the way. We didn’t have a place to spend the night, and only nailed that in the parking lot of the hotel after we gave it a look over.

Tim Horton’s is another Canadian institution, so we needed to visit one before we left the country. On our semi-rainy drive out we stopped at one and got some pretty good doughnuts. But my English-French non-conversation with the clerk was crazy. We communicated at about 2% understanding. The guy in line behind me had to intervene and translate!

We stopped for lunch at Sherbrooke, Quebec for lunch. A nice little college town.

About 2 hours from Quebec City, we reached the US border. That line cut in the trees is the US-Canadian border. This picture is taken from Canada, just a mile or so from the border entry point.

This is certainly a remote border crossing, and things were pretty quiet today. Interesting to see the houses right on the line, on each side of the border.

The US border guard was polite and quickly had us on our way.

We entered into the US in Vermont, but about half a mile later, were in New Hampshire going south on US 3. We initially were going into Vermont, but because of the tremendous rains the last couple of days, many roads there were closed.

Back in the USA!

We only stopped at the Mt. Washington Resort Hotel for a drink. It is an incredible place. We stayed at the lovely Mountain View Grand Resort & Spa instead for 1/2 the price.

View of the pool, the Ammonoosuc River, golf course and the Presidential range of mountains in the background. Mt. Washington is the one in the middle with the cloud and shadow over it.
