Door County to Madison - Day 13
Today we took our time leaving Door County, buying some local beer, local maple syrup and yes we found some cherries at a stand on the way out. The maple syrup was from a place that advertised as a "factory outlet". That sounded like the many touristy cherry places that are around there and I didn't want to go. But we decided to give it a try. When we got there, it looked like someones little country house, but it was the right place - and no tourist trap. It was a family place, and the maple trees and sugar house were right out back!We then headed south and since we were passing by Green Bay (the city), we thought we should stop at Lambeau Field (home of the Green Bay Packers NFL football team) and see it. There was a very well done "Packers Hall of Fame" museum. The stadium, which is old, and I assumed would look that way, in reality looked great, having been renovated recently. We passed on the stadium tour, but we asked if we could get a glimpse of the field and they said "without the tour, only from a helicopter". We drove south to Kohler/Sheboygan. Kohler, home of the plumbing fixtures company, which is a very tidy, well put together town. Almost (and probably is) a planned community. The factory and other buildings look great. Sheboygan is a few miles east and on Lake Michigan. There is a waterfront park. We looked around for a place to stay there, and on the spur of the moment, decided to go on to Madison, which was on the maybe list, and 110 miles away. First we had a great dinner at an Italian place in Sheboygan. We got a great hotel in Madison, just around the corner from the capitol building. On the way to Madison, we hit 3,000 miles for the trip.
