Grand Haven to Traverse City - Day 5

After a leisurely start in Grand Haven, we left Carol and headed up the Lake Michigan shore, generally on US 31. We stayed in Traverse City, but first drove directly to the Interlochen Center for the Arts to see Jackson Browne in concert. Interlochen is a fabulous, beautiful place (campus) in the middle of nowhere. The concert was great. We had 3rd row seats. On the way up we drove through several lakeside towns and checked them out. Interesting thing I figured out is the all the towns on the lake are at places where a river comes in, and that becomes the small natural harbor and port. Lake Michigan makes very nice, quite fine, beach sand. We put our toes in the water for the first time, and it was cold! Also, I realized that July 4th weekends are really the start of the heavy summer tourist season. And they are setting up for fairs and events all over the place. Speaking of the 4th, there are also American flags everywhere. Not sure if it is for the 4th of July, or the normal thing. No state flags seen though. Seems like there is an Elks Lodge in every town. Note: Friday fish fries are big up here.
