Day 11: Fargo to Medora, ND

This day was mostly a run across North Dakota in I-94. We had tickets to the Medora Musical (across the state), so we had to get moving to get there on time. We were able to sample some small towns along the way and a portion of the Enchanted Highway and its wonderful sculptures. The eastern part of the state is mostly flat and farm land, across the Missouri River things are a little more rolling and rugged.

Way less lakes in North Dakota than Minnesota, but there were a few beauties like this one west of Fargo off of ND 1.

The Enchanted Highway is a 32 mile run of eight large outdoor folk art type metal sculptures. It runs south from Gladstone to Regent. We only saw three of the sculptures because the time commitment to get to Medora for the show there. This piece was on I-94 at Gladstone and could be seen far away.

Another piece from the Enchanted Highway. We learned about these from a brochure we got at the visitor center in Fargo, otherwise they don’t appear to be widely known.

We attended the Medora Musical in Medora, ND. It was a great show and was put on in a first class way. By lucky chance at the last minute we got tickets in the front row, center section. Our only issue was that the show was rained out about 70% through. They said that only about 3-5 shows out of 100/year are rained out, so our luck ran against us as well. Medora is at the foot of the Teddy Roosevelt National Park and it’s badlands.
