Day 20: Billings to Greybull, WY

We are back to winging it today. The plan was to drop by the Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument, and then drive to Cody, WY, just to check it out. Hotel rooms were still sky high in Cody so to save some dollars and an hour of driving, we choose Greybull, WY and a mom & pop motel. The kind of motel I normally wouldn’t pick, but the reviews were great and the price was good. More on that on Day 21.

Before we left Billings, we stopped by the Yellowstone Art Museum (YAM). It was a great little art museum. On this day there was a wide variety art, including contemporary, western art and drawings. Much was local or related to the local area. There was a nice museum shop and a great little cafe where we ate lunch.

The visitor center and related 5 mile drive with displays does a good job presenting the Little Bighorn battlefield where Custer had his last stand. One lesson I always learn visiting this type of thing, is that I should do some research before I go. As good as this was presented, I couldn’t take it all in and will need to followup on the story.

Tourist stuff around the battlefield wasn’t too thick, and again, as a kid I’d have loved this stuff!

Fine art near the battlefield. At least the “Latch Key Kid” shows some creativity.

Unlike the prior day on the Beartooth Mountain road, our weather was good. I suspect that those driving that pass under this cloud right now were having a different experience.
