Day 10: Interstate to Little Rock

Last night was our first night at a highway motel, the kind with terrible free breakfast. We’d previously stayed in city hotels, but as we pressed on past Nashville, we ended up at a Holiday Inn Express on I-40 about 140 miles from Memphis. The interesting thing is that the cost of the Holiday Inn was almost exactly what the 2 hotels in Cincinnati and the really nice hotel in Little Rock cost us. But we had no complaints about the Holiday Inn. We did get some sausage from the breakfast buffet to go with our excellent cinnamon roll from the Findley Market in Cincinnati.

Since we ran about 280 miles of I-40 to Little Rock, today’s post will be the interstate! The first 9 are all at one spot, not even a town, just an interstate oasis.

Not many old style motels with access from the outside and balconies.

On July 8th, the fireworks tents were still up, but all closed down.

More typical views.

I’ve called the interstate highways the “18 Wheeler Highway System” and I-40 is rich with them. I did some quick counts of traffic on the other side and at least half of the vehicle are large trucks. It is ok with 3 lanes on your side. You see that here, but that was a short exception.

We bought peaches and tomatoes here.

This is the only image here not on I-40, but it was pretty close. Just for a change of scene and change of traffic, we got off and ran along US 70, which is pretty much parallel to the interstate. We made Little Rock about 6pm. Along the way we booked the Capitol Hotel in Little Rock.
